Shaky Tour: East Coast 2016 —

THAYER SARRANO

March 09, 2016 (Wednesday) - Thayer Sarrano and her band open festivities for this evening's headliners -- The Drive-By Truckers (DBTs). The Columbus Theatre of Providence, RI, provides a stage for the Shaky Tour. It's quite a stage, too, decidedly old world. The Columbus Theatre is, certainly, a unique and historic venue. It first opened as a vaudeville and silent film house in 1926, a mere year prior to what eventually became the clear ascendancy of sound-backed cinema, with the release of The Jazz Singer in 1927. The Columbus Theatre is listed on the Endangered Properties List of the Providence Preservation Society.

We are also happy to raise the curtain on -- on our website, at least -- the first of a series of new photographs of Thayer Sarrano (see above). This image (and those like it later to follow) were taken in Nashville, TN in January 2016. They are the handicraft of the gifted lens-talent -- Emilia Paré, who has herself recently released an opulent, hardbound book, entitled TWENTYTWO. It documents the photographer's year in images, running from February 2015 to February 2016. Many thanks to Emilia Paré for all the fine work on the Thayer Sarrano photo-shoot. We look forward to using (indeed, over-using) these skilled images, until every last bit of luminance and aura has been drained from every last pixel. If that is possible, we are quite skilled at it here. It is a house specialty.

After a series of two-night stints in Brooklyn and Washington, the Shaky Tour long-haul of one-show stopovers begins in earnest. Destinations: Portland (ME), Jay (VT), Ithaca (NY), Rocky Mount (VA), Cincinnati, Charlottesville, and Carrboro (NC). Thayer's Trio consists of: William T. Kissane (drums), Zack Milster (bass), and Thayer Sarrano herself (guitar). JoJo Glidewell has hopped off the Shaky train (it's really a van, actually) and onto a plane (actually, it's really a plane), to join of Montreal on tour. If you find yourself in need of a Glidewell fix, but can't yourself catch of Montreal on the road, may we suggest a video or two: "Coquet Coquette" or "Sails Hermaphroditic." There you can spot (and hear) Mr. Glidewell on the screen (and in the mix). (In the first, on the screen, he's the second man in. In the second, he's the first (and only) referee found therein, one known as "Jowl Jorg.") Many thanks to JoJo Glidewell for helping Thayer Sarrano to round out her sound, for the first half of this particular leg of the Shaky Tour.

Infinite gratitude is extended to the Drive-By Trucker, for inviting Thayer along as an opener on this leg of their lifelong tour. Gratitude is also extended to the Columbus Theatre, for providing such a fine platform for Thayer Sarrano.

March 06, 2016 (Sunday) - Both today and tomorrow, the Music Hall of Williamsburg, located in Brooklyn, hosts the Shaky Tour, as it rises steadily up the East Coast, gaining more wintry climes. Thayer Sarrano and her band open this NYC-borough showcase for this evening's headliners -- The Drive-By Truckers (DBTs). For two more performances, Thayer's ensemble will consist of: JoJo Glidewell (keys), William T. Kissane (drums), Zack Milster (bass), and Thayer Sarrano herself (guitar). JoJo Glidewell will soon depart to join of Montreal on tour. In the second, he's the first (and only) referee therein, one known as "Jowl Jorg.") Many thanks to JoJo Glidewell for helping Thayer Sarrano to round out her sound, for the first half of this particular leg of the Shaky Tour, especially at these larger venues, like the 9:30 Club and the Music Hall of Williamsburg, where there is ample space and ears to be filled. Eternal gratitude is extended to the Drive-By Trucker, for inviting Thayer along as an opener on this leg of their lifelong tour, and to the Music Hall of Williamsburg, for providing a fine platform for her sonic craft.

9:30 Club

March 04, 2016 (Friday) - Today and tomorrow, the 9:30 Club hosts the Shaky Tour, as it ascends still further up the East Coast. Thayer Sarrano and her band open this evening's Washington, DC proceedings for headliners -- The Drive-By Truckers (DBTs). The DBTs are presently comprised of, proceeding alphabetically: Mike Cooley (guitar), Jay Gonzalez (keys), Patterson Hood (guitar), Brad Morgan (drums), and Matt Patton (bass). The Thayer Sarrano Experience is constituted at present of: JoJo Glidewell (keys), William T. Kissane (drums), Zack Milster (bass), and, of course, Thayer Sarrano (vox, guitar) herself. We would like to thank the Drive-By Trucker for inviting Thayer along as an opener on this leg of their lifelong tour. We would also like to thank the good folks of the 9:30 Club, for welcoming Thayer Sarrano into their venue space.

Please visit the Thayer Sarrano Bandcamp page, where CDs, vinyl, and T-shirts are expedited worldwide, to your very doorstep or, if your Postman prefers, your neighbor's bird bath. Ruminate deeply upon Thayer's Concert Ledger to keep track of dates and venues, as the DBTs, Thayer, and her well-mannered hooligans roam towards a locality near you. If they do not, we advise that you fire up the RV, or contact a travel agent.

THAYER SARRANO
HQ Live (Salisbury, MD)

Thayer Sarrano at HQ Live!

March 03, 2016 (Thursday) - The ascent up the East Coast has officially begun. Today, Headquarters Live hosts the Shaky Tour. Thayer Sarrano and her band open for the Drive-By Truckers up in Salisbury, Maryland -- along the northeastern seaboard. We of the News Wire Team are always amazed by the great bands and musicians we've had the chance to write about over this last year. That includes, of course, Thayer Sarrano herself, and the various reconfigurations (prior and present) of her ensemble -- currently JoJo Glidewell (keys), William T. Kissane (drums), and Zack Milster (bass), proceeding alphabetically.

For example, just yesterday our Staff Archivist was rummaging around in the Archives, building out our News Wire Vault (The Scriptorium Archive). There we uploaded to our website a post from last summer, transferring it from Facebook. The post was about Thayer Sarrano's opener for (and performance with) Cracker fronted by Johnny Hickmann and David Lowery. The 40 Watt Club here in Athens hosted that event, which was part of Athfest 2015. Less than a year later, Thayer Sarrano and her ensemble gets to swing sabers opening for another iconic band -- the Drive-By Truckers. To our knowledge, gathered from that fine source of both information and misinformation -- the worldwide web -- the DBTs are presently comprised of: Mike Cooley (guitar), Jay Gonzalez (keys), Patterson Hood (guitar), Brad Morgan (drums), and Matt Patton (bass).

Many thanks to both Cracker and to the Drive-By Truckers for these opportunities, and their advancement of good music everywhere -- their own deep, quality catalogs, as well as that of Thayer Sarrano. Believe us. (We're certain.) We know. Yesterday, our News Wire Staff gathered around our conference table, to enjoy a few video performances over coffee -- both found below. One video was "Almond Grove" by Cracker -- a song for which Thayer Sarrano was asked to offer backing vocals in the studio, among other musical contributions to the larger record. "Almond Grove" is from Cracker's Berkeley to Bakersfield album, released in 2014, on 429 Records.

The other video we watched was a live peformance of one of Patterson Hood's solo works -- "Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance" -- a song released on the album of that same name, in 2012, on ATO Records. If you look closely, you will spot a few Truckers masquerading slyly as the Downtown Rumblers. Also of note, Thayer Sarrano was herself afforded an opportunity to play the lilting Gonzalez piano-riff of "Heat Lightning," when she opened for (and then joined onstage for a few tunes) Patterson Hood and Chris Funk, back in December 2015, during her West Coast Version 1.0 of the Shaky Tour.

We would like to extend thanks to the kind people of Headquarters Live, for welcoming Thayer Sarrano and her saber-rattlers into their venue space, pictured above. Please visit the Thayer Sarrano Bandcamp page, where CDs, vinyl, and T-shirts are expedited worldwide, to your very doorstep or, if your Postman prefers, your neighbor's frontyard. Ruminate deeply upon Thayer's Concert Ledger to keep track of dates and venues, as the DBTs, Thayer, and her Gang roam towards a neighborhood near you. If they do not, we advise that you contact a travel agent.

THAYER SARRANO
Arcana (Durham, NC)

Thayer Sarrano at Arcana
Arcana

March 01, 2016 (Tuesday) - One of the vertices of the NC Research Triangle plays host to the Shaky Tour. Thayer Sarrano performs live in Durham at Arcana. Accompanying Sarrano onstage will be JoJo Glidewell (keys), William T. Kissane (drums), and Zack Milster (bass). This clique of musicians will then join swords on Thursday with the Drive-By Truckers, promptly ascending up the East Coast. Scheduled Sarrano openers for the Drive-By Truckers include stops in: Salisbury (MD), Washington, Brooklyn, Providence, Portland (ME), Jay (VT), Ithaca, Rocky Mount (VA), Cincinnati, Charlottesville, and Carrboro (NC). We would like to thank Patterson Hood and all the DBTs for making this leg of the tour in support of the album Shaky such a significant undertaking.

We would also like to thank the good people of Arcana for welcoming Thayer Sarrano and the Gang into their venue space. To our knowledge, this is her first performance there. We hope it will not be the last. Please visit the Thayer Sarrano Bandcamp page, where CDs, vinyl, and T-shirts are expedited worldwide to your very doorstep. Ponder also Thayer's Concert Ledger to keep track of dates and venues, as she and her coterie descend upon an unsuspecting locality nearest thee.

"...Those of us in the arts must pronounce ourselves unequivocally against man and for woman, and bring man down from a position of power which, it has been sufficiently demonstrated, he has misused, restore this power to the hands of woman, dismiss all of man's pleas so long as woman has not yet succeeded in taking back her fair share of that power, not only in art but in life."

- André Breton, Arcanum 17 (1944).
