THAYER SARRANO
Live from the Georgia Theatre

October 30, 2018 (Tuesday) - It's been months and years in the making, and talked about sotto voce in hushed inner circles, or, if you prefer, spheres. We are continuing the slow roll-out of the new EP -- Live from the Georgia Theatre -- by Thayer Sarrano, or, to speak still more precisely, the Thayer Sarrano Acoustic Chamber. We make this "chamber" distinction, so as not to confuse those who only know Sarrano as The Seraph of the Fuzz Pedal, while also introducing them gently to her multi-faceted musical gifts. This EP is part and parcel of our continued celebration of the new 7" single -- "I Will Never Be Used to Your Beauty" -- because that same song and its B-side -- "If It Be Your Will" by the late Leonard Cohen -- both find a place in this new, live offering. It's almost like we planned it from the beginning, or something.

Only now, those particular songs are shifted from their original rock setting to a rather sophisticated folk format, combining acoustic guitars, a period instrument (the oud), and those staples of the conservatory tradition at its orchestral finest (violins, and double bass). The EP is still only available on CD and as a digital download via Bandcamp. It will only be made available on iTunes and those other usual suspects, including streaming services such as Spotify, when we are good and ready. It's all about the prolongation of the celebration.

As prelude to that future day, we thought now to unveil all 30-minutes of the live performance film of the same name -- Thayer Sarrano Acoustic Chamber -- Live from the Georgia Theatre. This video was captured back in May 2018, as part of the Don Chambers Album Release Show. The set list that evening featured songs both older and newer from the Sarrano catalog: "Quiet Now Your Bones," "The Wolf," "I Will Never Be Used to Your Beauty," "Quiet State of Panic," "If It Be Your Will," and "Back to the Home." The latter is an as yet unreleased song, one which has already been given the full studio treatment, on Thayer Sarrano's forthcoming 2019 album -- In Light of the Spheres. That song is but one sparkling gem, in a diadem of air, changing colors, on that new LP.

For those who collect these treasures of Sarrano lore, "I Will Never Be Used to Your Beauty" was originally intended for release on that forthcoming album. The original title of the song then was "Music of the Spheres." But, owing to the time restrictions of vinyl, the tune was sadly cut, and then remade from its original Chamberlin synth-setting, as first recorded at Mitch Easter's Fidelitorium Recordings, near Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Its current rock version -- out on 7" vinyl -- was recorded in a day, in Athens, back in the summer of 2018, during a hail storm. The Chamberlin-version will eventually hear the light of day, as part of a compendium box set retrospective. Who knows when exactly? All of this begs the question: if a song of that caliber was cut from the album for which it was originally intended, what bounty of songwriting abundance displaced it? That question will be answered eventually. As for now, why not enjoy the moment, and performance of the song -- "I Will Never Be Used to Your Beauty" -- as found in the new video from the Thayer Sarrano Acoustic Chamber? Why not?

The Guildwater Group would like to thank the musicians, proceeding alphabetically: Keiko Ishibashi (violin), William Kissane (guitar, vocals), Luca Lombardi (bass), Jeremy Raj (oud, vocals), Thayer Sarrano (guitar, vocals), and Serena Scibelli (violin). We would also like to thank all the masterminds, who tweaked knobs and pushed faders: David Hanna, Jason Huffer, Andy LeMaster, Jason Nesmith, and R. Sloan Simpson. Thanks also to Rick Poss of the The Georgia Theatre who made this all possible.
