THAYER SARRANO
(Denver, CO)
February 27, 2019 (Wednesday) - Thayer Sarrano plays The Walnut Room in support of the great and eternally youthful Johnny Hickman of Cracker fame -- not to mention his solo work and those side projects (The Hickman-Dalton Gang, for starters). This show unfurls in Denver, Colorado, which is a scant 779 miles from Butte, Montana, which means a leisurely Sunday (on a Tuesday and Wednesday) drive of about 11 hours and 28 minutes, in the space of a day, if Google Maps speaks true, and one bypasses Yellowstone National Park, moving instead through the Crow Reservation. Sadly, the show in Butte was canceled on account of something called a "blizzard," one not of the Dairy Queen kind. It's a shame. because, judging by the looks of things -- see image below -- the Hotel Finlen was as unique a space as there could be, carved out especially in those western plateaux, for the murk™ rock music of Thayer Sarrano. From Seattle on Sunday to Butte was no hop, skip, and a jump, either. It was more like 593 miles, and 9 hours, and 32 minutes --- and in those aforementioned blizzard conditions -- if the Weather Channel speaks true. But such distances and climates must sometimes be traversed, in the broader mission of bringing good music to the peoples of America.
